Thanks Wolven, for the info : http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=26566&sid=5a3dcfd97e3fefe12029ab3c7eb5cf8b

So I want to install linux on this mini server with only 2 Gigs of space, but most today distros need more than that. So Debian standard system with Xfce it is.

Most newbies like me, don’t know that you need to install xorg first, then install the preferable desktop manager like GNOME, KDE, or maybe Xfce.

Simply said, these are the steps :

  1. Update the repository
  2. Install the required packages
  3. Configure xorg
  4. configure ALSA sound
  5. start gdm / restart

And here are the commands :

apt-get update
apt-get install xserver-xorg-core xorg alsa-base alsa-utils hal udev gdm xfce4 xfce4-goodies xfce4-mixer xfce4-mixer-alsa thunar-archive-plugin
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
alsaconf
gdm

and… it’s done :)

Boy, how I just love to write this kind of stuff :D

So, yesterday I was installing TrueCrypt 6.0a because there’s some… um…  “sensitive” that files need protecting :P The installation was easy, until I stumbled into this :

What? no restart later button?

What? no restart later button?

So there I was with another decision in my life, but this time there’s only one option left. But wait! there’s a close button up there, that might help. But the close button also said no :

Why..? Why...?

why oh why...?

And I’m telling you, deploying a system, with a little taskbar on the lower left that said “TrueCrypt Setup” all day, just plain sux :D

After years and years gone by having the cleanest PC on the network (that’s right), an adware stop by and said hello :

Fake infection warning

See how my firefox window turned small? It was actually behind the warning dialog box at first, making a false impression of Windows warning. I pressed Cancel (of cource), and it took me into freewebscanner.com and again, the site do a system check and said that my system was infected.

Another false warning

Another false warning

And it even offered me to install some software, geez. Apparently AVG Anti-Virus Free and Spybot – Search & Destroy just not enough. Any suggestion for good anti virus/spyware? Anyone who reply “Ubuntu!” is gay :D

Today I tried to change my wordpress.com email information into my new email account (it’s in My Account –> Edit Profile), but after several times, the email information just won’t changed. A few clicks away, I found this on WordPress FAQ :

This generally means that the e-mail address you are attempting to use is currently associated with another WordPress.com account. Because the e-mail address is the unique identifier of all users, each address can only be associated with one WordPress.com account. Thus, if you attempt to change it, it will not allow you to do so.

Is that so? so I went back to the login form, and fill out the ‘forget password’ form with my new email address. And guess what, apparently my email address has been used by this username: g2-31da29dd0514f738fe594e6a6c63ed21

No, really, it was g2-31da29dd0514f738fe594e6a6c63ed21

I don’t know, perhaps wordpress think this is a feature to able to use an email address without a verification, but I certainly think not. Really, it’s okay, I don’t mind to open my mail account and open the inbox and then click the verification link, no biggie.
